about distance and context

Much has already been written about distance in shibari/kinbaku. But relax, you don´t have to start a martial art to recognize the possibilities of distance.
You experience the effect of distance in social contact every day.

For example close contact or short distance is often related to intimate moments. But think about your angry boss coming nearer and nearer. Or the pushy colleague touching your shoulder while he talks to you.

Short distance maybe leads to a feeling of security. But it also can evoke fear, anger, shyness or shame.
Itˋs important to acknowledge the situation.

In tying we can change the situation e.g. through talking or handling. But of course you also have to take the mood of the moment into account.

E.g. when tying short distance on my lap i can create a feeling of shame through being pushy in talking or behavior. There is no need to cuddle in short distance tying all the time.

It´s also important for teaching situations.
When a 60 year old japanese rope teacher with a room full of pornvideos approaches a 20 year old japanese girl for tying and comes very close it evokes certain feelings.
When a 30 year old european guy does the same with his girlfriend of the same age the reaction could be totally different. Even when the technique is the same.

Distance itself is not to be used out of context.
